Assumptions

  • Sheet size: 4 × 8 ft
  • Estimated waste: 10% for an average project
  • Joint tape roll: 250 ft per roll (250 ft and 500 ft are both commonly stocked). Footage is half each sheet's perimeter -- seam geometry, since every seam is shared by two sheets -- not an estimating coefficient.

Why is sheet size editable?

4x8, 4x10, and 4x12 sheets are all common. Changing the sheet size changes the coverage per sheet and the rounded purchase count.

Does the sheet count include waste?

Yes. The waste percentage is applied to total area before dividing by sheet coverage, then the result is rounded up to whole sheets.
