Cabinet linear footage and work triangle
Cabinet linear footage sums your wall runs and subtracts any openings (doorways or pass-throughs) that interrupt a run, then compares that to your actual cabinet widths to find filler strip length — the gap between cabinet boxes and the wall run they sit in. The kitchen work triangle (sink, fridge, cooktop) checks the sum of the three straight-line distances between those points against the common 13-26 ft reference range; too short can feel cramped, too long adds unnecessary walking distance while cooking.
Cabinet wall runs don’t derive from the room’s length and width automatically — an L-shaped or galley kitchen layout has its own run lengths that a room rectangle alone doesn’t determine, so this page asks for them separately.

Both are mathematical identities -- no trade convention and no published source stands behind either, and none is needed.

Tessellation geometry, not an allowance: each tile sits in a module one joint wider and one joint longer, and whatever the tile does not cover is grout. Nothing is estimated in this ratio.
Coverage per bag as printed on the bag, halved when back-buttering -- that halving is an estimated trade allowance, not a manufacturer figure. NOT area × notch depth × dry density -- that treats a ridged bed as a solid slab AND counts the mix water as powder, over-ordering ~2.5x.
Bathroom fixture clearances check toilet side and front clearance, shower size and front clearance, and lavatory front clearance against 2021 IRC R307.1 and Figure R307.1. Each of the six is the code minimum, not a planning rule of thumb. What they are not is a determination for your jurisdiction: local amendments are common, and an inspector reads the adopted local code — so verify before finalizing a layout.

Tile for wet areas
Tile runs over the room’s full floor area from Room Layout here, which fits a fully tiled kitchen or bathroom floor. Tile count factors your tile size and waste percent; grout weight and thinset bag count come from joint width, joint depth, and a density constant you can adjust for your grout product.
If tile only covers part of the room (a shower surround, a kitchen backsplash), switch Tile to manual entry and enter that smaller area directly.
FAQ
Why don't Cabinets and Bathroom follow the room length/width like Tile does?
A kitchen's cabinet wall runs and a bathroom's fixture clearances are their own measurements that a room rectangle doesn't determine on its own -- an L-shaped kitchen or an offset bathroom layout needs its own numbers, entered separately, the same way Framing & Structural asks for footing dimensions separately from the wall run.
Does Tile cover the whole room?
Yes, by default Tile runs over the full floor area from Room Layout. Switch Tile to "Manual entry" and enter a smaller area if only part of the room is tiled.
Are the bathroom clearance checks a local code citation?
They are the 2021 IRC minimums — R307.1 and Figure R307.1 — not general planning figures. They are not a citation for YOUR jurisdiction: local amendments are common, so confirm against the code your inspector actually enforces before finalizing a layout.
Can I fine-tune just one calculator without changing the room dimensions?
Yes. Flip any section to "Manual entry" to edit its inputs directly without changing the room layout or the other calculators.
